An Inconvenient Truth
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Lib Dems, Labour or Tories: soon an important film called ‘An Inconvenient Truth‘ will be released in the UK. Here is what one of America’s most famous film reviewers, Robert Ebert, said of the film: "In 39 years, I have never written these words in a movie review, but here they are: you owe it to yourself to see this film. If you do not, and you have grandchildren, you should explain to them why you decided not to".
I would like to invite some of you for a private viewing on Wednesday 20th September at 6pm, at the Electric Cinema on Portobello Road, followed by brief Q&A and discussion with invited experts on how private investment can help us address the climate change crisis. I won’t personally be there at the screening (because of travel and the fact that I have already seen it ;-)) but a number of friends and colleagues in the private equity and alternative investment business should be, including folks from Generation Investment Management, Al Gore’s investment firm.
There are only very few seats to be allocated so here is the deal: only ask for a seat if you are passionate about climate change and wish to participate in spreading the word. If you are in a position of influence and can do much to ensure as many people see this movie after its public release, so much the better. Part of why I started this blog is to do just that, and I will use the Al Gore movie as the trigger for many posts on climate change, the carbon crisis, and what we can do about it. Two sentences about why you should care:
- some dramatic, non-linear changes are likely within our lifetime or that of your children
- temperature increases are not a leading indicator of temperature increases; but carbon levels are.
And by the way, it gets 92% at Rotten Tomatoes and is great cinema too !
